Hotflash hottie

I wrote this poem for a friend who was complaining

Some would say she was so cranky
Others said she was off hanky panky
She got so got hot she thought she'd combust
Some parts unused she said they'd rust
Now only chocolate will work
A big piece of cake would make her smirk
And then there were her ample thighs
Won't get smaller even though she tries
She looks in the mirror and hates her belly
She grabs two handfuls, it shakes like jelly
And then she gawked at her boobs
They looked like big long pendulous tubes
But I don't care, I don't get snotty
Because I still love my hotflash hottie

Land of the free?

Some call it the land of the free
But is it? Look carefully and see
Law upon law controls us all
Business, bedroom, women's health, all
Politicians looking to control
They know better? Than the whole?
Christian right sit in their pew
They look at us and say "but not for you"
I think and wonder how they can
Fuck the Bill of Rights, it's my land man!
"If you don't like it, then you can leave"
Is there no room for different belief?
The poor, minorities, don't leave them behind
How can people be so blind?
GOP out of control now
Killing economy, why, and how?
Blocking a president in their hate
Leaving a wasteland in their wake
Can we change? Take back the land?
Guarding it, being fair, lending out hand?

Steel

the arc of the steel
catches & reflects sunlight
the feel of the grip
sharkskin rough
the slight almost tug
as the target separates
a piece falling
to the ground, separated
the ease of cutting
knowing what the steel can do
defending
offending
onlookers amazed
at how casually the swordsman
cuts the tatami mat
no, not a katana or even two handed
a baskethilt guards the hand
a sense of doing this before
on a field called Culloden

The news

I didn't know what to think when I got the news
So much time had passed
Mind a whirl with questions
 I had never forgotten her
She was in my thoughts most days
But the pain was there each time I saw her face
 I look at a picture
Face upturned and joyful
A time when we were so close
 Should I call?
The question haunted me
Could I reach out?
Moving past pain is a difficult thing
Disappointment in what I could have done different
The past cannot change.
 I looked at my phone
A text would be ok?
"I hope you're ok."
 I waited and wondered
Would an answer come?
And the the beep of a new message waiting.

Cries of Pain

cries of pain unheard
where is one that will listen
life, hard with love
near impossible when alone
wishing one were there
to simply listen
a hand on a shoulder
reaching out to lift up
yet cries of pain unheard

Merry Earthmas!

My friend Monica came up with this. And I love it. How many of us celebrate and care for the earth? I know I don't do near enough. What if we all recycled at every chance we could? What if we avoided fast food and the tons of containers that get thrown out? What if we picked up the trash we see when we are walking? What if we used sustainable energy sources? What if we made our carbon footprint as small as possible?

If we did all we could for the planet what would our environment be like?

What if we bought locally? What if we used local banks and credit unions instead of big banks? Could we help turn around the banking fiasco in America? Could we pu big corporations out of business if they were irresponsible?

What if we shared with the poor? What if each year we donated to Heifer international? What if each year we donated to Kiva? Could we raise the bar and help people finds the food they need?

Merry Earthmas!

One lone candle shines its light
Holding back total darkness
One more candle joins that fight
To hold the darkness at bay
What if more supplied their lights?
Would the world be changed
To rid from us that darksome night
where hate and despair reign.
So one and all may we lend our might
For strength in numbers we can be
So let our spirits be set alight
And work together for good of all.

Merry Earthmas and Blessed Be!

Holiday

Jostled
Looks of annoyance
Grabbing for the last one
Have they lost the meaning?

Smile
Another returned
"You have such a wonderful smile"
Season's Greetings

Huh-bub
Do we lose our love?
Anger and impatience
Is it contagious?

Materialism
Do toys really matter?
What does matter?
Things or individuals?

Love
Radiating this for peace
Giving to those in need
Living what is important?
